Ubuntu is a great way to learn Linux There is a lot of features that do better than windows itself. Burning a ISO image when downloaded went smoothly and installing the system was easy on a new system as well as upgrading to a new version. Downloading new software is not a big hassle and the desktop features are great to use. I have started with the 8.04 version and it was great to learn on and now it is at the 9.04 and it is cleaner which I have installed when it was released. The best part is that the program does not require any major hardware upgrades.
There are some features that I like to see improve in Ubuntu. First, the terminal is great to use but the vi program is not full featured or commands and movements are not basically there in the old version that is included in the program. I had to upgrade the vi which gave it an improvement. Second, even though Ubuntu is great to learn on but it also impose a downside for some people to learn Unix. As we all know, Ubuntu is graphic interfaced so it is way too GUI (graphics user interface) To really learn some features in Linux, it is better to practice in the Terminal first. The root password does not have to be hidden for advanced users.
Overall, I do prefer Ubuntu over other Linux systems since it does come with many features including Firefox, Open Office and Gimp. File transfers from windows to linux and back are not a problem, just make sure that the extensions are correct. Excellent to install on an older computer at home that is collecting dust.

Review of Data Jockey

Data Jockey is one of the new entrants into the world of ETL tools. It is a digital disc jockey tool which leverages audio meta-data. This tool focusses heavily on search and comparison between audio works using audio meta-data.
We have used this to segregate and classify some of our unstructured data. Overall we were satisfied with the performance and features of the product but it still needs some essential features that are missing.

The Java platform is a great. It's the largest and most active on the planet. It's versatile, efficient and is invaluable to developers. It assists you in writing software on one platform and runs it on any other platform.

Open Office 3.1 push back MS Office from the indian IT sector.
some huge organizations also adopt opensource technology.

also people understand that openoffice is not just an alternative ,
it is essential for those who are working in limited budget.

openoffice provides almost all features of ms-office ,
also compatible with .doc, .xls , .ppt format .

openoffice is more populer in education systems in india because it is free of cost.

openoffice is a part of almost all LINUX os. so ubuntu like operating systems
are more populer nowadays.

also OO provides some cool add-ons so that one can customize it.

but No System is perfect , so here i faced some problems with openoffice also ,

from openoffice 2.0 to openoffice 3.1 on the starting
it takes more time than other software packages.

also GUI is to be changed not like ms-office 2007(complicated) .
GUI(need tolook cool) factor also creates a big matter in popularity.

Nowadays SMBs(small & medium business) & SMEs (small & medium enterprises) have
also gain the advantage of opensource through openoffice.but non-technical people
need to know more and more regarding openoffice. in this world people think that how it
is posible to get something free.

i want to say that MYSQL is the best database which i ever use.also it speedup the 3 tier architecture systems , now a days web-applications are booming in the IT sector. as mysql is open source it also useful in cost cutting. all programming language can attach with mysql, also my sql is syatem independent.

Posted by prerna prakashbhai on July 12, 2009 at 09:35 AM EDT #

J2EE ,what a great concept in web applications , and three tier architecture. while using jsp , strut and javafx is very light weighted for websites. and how can we forget EJB different components for enterprise applications like transactions and forms.

have u ever heard SAP r/3 , if yes then u might be knowing that SAP is built on J2EE. and it also use EJB.

also j2EE is platform independent so development and execution is possible in all sys. even linux.
