Sun Software Library gets a face lift
The Sun Software Library got a serious facelift a couple of days ago. And, no Botox was used in the process (dammit, Jim, we're engineers, not doctors).
- Home Page: we've added "most viewed" and "recently updated" lists to our home page. Most viewed entries are ones that are displayed by the most number of users over the recent past. Most recently updated entries are those that, well, are most recently updated. Also, our home page got a background image (finally!)

- Improved tag navigation: we got some feedback that the detail pages for entries that have a large number of tags (e.g. dozens) are just plain ugly - the large number of tags ends up dominating the detail page, distracting the user from the other information. So we've made two changes:
- Only the first few tags are displayed by default. If you want to see all the tags, click on the "view all tags" button. Note that this button also includes the total number of tags in the entry (we figured this is helpful information).
- Clicking on a tag now navigates you to the search results window, displaying all the entries tagged with that tag. This is equivalent to clicking the tag in the tag cloud, if it were there (the tag cloud only displays the top used tags).
- There is now a "view tags" button on all pages, next to the search bar, that will navigate to the search page with the tag cloud.
- Tag Management: we now enable content owners to manage their tag lists more easily, via the tags tab in the edit panel. Content editors can now add and delete tags through this new tab.
- Safari: we now fully support Safari, so you can even publish content from your iPhone (or in my case, iPod Touch). Did you know you can take a screen snapshot of your iPhone/iPod Touch by pressing the on/off button and home buttons at the same time? I learned about this feature here.
- Firefox and IE search engine list: Sun Software Library can now be added to Firefox and IE's search engine lists. To do this in Firefox, first navigate to the Sun Software Library home page, drop down the search engine list, and select the "Add Sun Software Library" option:

Then, you can search the Sun Software Library directly from your browser:
The Internet Explorer experience is similar. In a future version, we'll add a link somewhere on our site to add the Sun Software Library automatically. Amazingly, this can't be done in Safari.
And that's all for this particular iteration, folks! Comments and feedback always welcome.
