new java.lang.String() to your bow with JavaTV ?

Since the core
Java language and core
APIs exist on everything from servers down to smart cards, if
you
know them already, you have a head start programming for a new platform
- like JavaTV.For which you'd need the new Java TV SDK. And for a kick start on how to use it, take a look at this collection of hands on tutorials and video presentations on how to create applications that look like this for TV set top boxes and disc players. Like how to take a mobile phone version of PacMan and turn it into on that runs on a TV settop box. Or this interesting presentation on how to migrate from other Java ME profiles, or even Java SE to the TV platform.
Maybe its time to add another string to your bow ?

I wouldn't like them calling their project JavaTV if it only runs on Windows.
Not that I looked at any further that the strange license or that it has DirectX dependencies and even dares to recommend downloading Visual Studio 2008. No thanks!

The SDK and runtime are different beasts. The SDK is Windows-specific only because it includes an emulator, which is a native application. The DX runtime (and perhaps also the VS2008 runtime) are only needed for older versions of Windows, since all recent versions include these components built-in. The runtime is a general Java ME CDC/PBP with extra libs, so Java TV is supposed to run in any device that supports CDC today.
It's not a different situation from Java ME, which WTK was for a long time Windows-only. I hope Sun eventually ports the JavaTV SDK to Linux and Mac.
