Here's the news for June 2008 - things are still pretty hectic for me as I continue to learn my new day-job, so haven't been able to keep on top of the news as much as I'd like, and I've got a sinking feeling I'm missing some important stuff in the list below. So, if you feel like helping out, please add comments to this post.

If you really want to help out, and would like to become a guest-editor for July's news, drop me a mail and I'll send on the scripts I use when compiling the list - it'll still be a pretty time consuming task though (2 or 3 hours, typically), but it's for a good cause!

So, without further ado, here's some of the stuff that went on in June:

Comments:

Is standby / hibernate is not in the priority list ? even within sun - all our laptops are not running in OpenSolaris is mostly because of lack of complete laptop support like - standby and hibernate. any chance on seeing this feature integrated this year ?

Absolutely Sriram - there's a project over at the laptop community to get s3 (suspend to ram) support for laptops - see more at
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/suspend-resume/

- not sure about suspend to disk (hibernate) - Solaris has support for this via the CPR mechanism, but it's sparc only for now: I suspect once suspend to ram happens, it mightn't be far off...

That said, the list above isn't a priority list, it's just a list of what's happened in June. I've covered laptop power management in previous months.

[hey! and get your laptop running OpenSolaris - even without suspend, boot times are really fast ]
