You can get more info at Sun's Energy Rebate Program. Now, I've heard of rebates on energy saving dishwashers, water heaters and other home appliances, but servers? It is true:
GREEN brings more GREEN
Now, I wonder which rebate pays off faster (i.e. saves more energy)...the latest and greatest dishwasher, or an UltraSPARC T1000 or T2000 server powered by Niagara.
Hey, look at it this way, go ahead and use that old Dell as a space heater this winter.

Turn up the Heat in Dallas!!
The temp is already getting hot here in Dallas with highs touch close to 100. And now the Heat are going to make it hotter for the Mavs. Last night, the Mavs won their first Conference Finals to get to the NBA Finals, starting this Thursday.
Hats off to the Suns and one of their biggest fans, Mark Dixon. His blog last night summed it all up. Both teams tried to tire each other out, and the "litle bit less" tired team got game 6.
I really believe that no East team could run with the Mavs or the Suns. However after two great NBA Finals series with the Spurs and the Suns, I hope the Mavs have it in them to beat the Heat to 4 wins. There's no better prep than a team like the Suns.

Mavs Win! Head to the Valley...
Josh Howard, bum ankle and all, lead the Mavs tonight with 29 pts to a 105-98 win!
Now their in Dixon's court in the Valley of the Sun.

Suns take game 1...
As mentioned by Mark Dixon on his blog tonight, it is the Western Conference Finals. His Suns up agains my Mavs.
The Mavs unable to close it out, let Nash run the floor in the final minutes. If the rest of the series looks like this game, neither team will have any players or energy to take on the Eastern Champion in the finals. Let's hope that Bell and Howard can both come back soon.
Mark, a big Maverick hat off to you on Game 1. Buckle your seatbelt, I'm hoping for a 1-1 time by the time they head back out to the desert.

Wiki and Google Maps helping Katrina disaster
If you haven't downloaded Google Earth and are familiar with it, you've definitely seen it referenced hundereds of times over the past week as you watch CNN.
Tonight, while perusing Wired's blogs, I ran across this article, A Disaster Map 'Wiki' Is Born. In a nutshell, the site Scipionus.com allows visitors to provide detailed information on conditions at various locations around New Orleans. Very cool stuff. Check it out if you get a chance.
It brings together to very great technologies of Wiki and Google Earth.
This article talks about the mainstream use of Wiki's as a tool for collaboration between the not so techny individuals. In fact, the success of blogrolls such as this is partially powered by a Wiki used to publish/edit content.
As many of my fellow Sun colleagues know, Wiki's have become very popular to collaborate and share content on many projects. In addition, I've started a couple of Wiki's for my kids soccer teams as well as my Homeowner Association. For those out there at support such groups and hate having to constantly update content for them, Wiki's might just be your answer.
My experience has been with the JSPWiki implementation. A Wiki engine built around J2EE components (Java, servlets, JSP). The work involved to download/install/use this Wiki was very minimal. The basic steps included:
Setup a J2EE app server/servlet/JSP container (I used Apache Tomcat)
Drop the JSPWiki distribution into the webapps directory (I called mine idmwiki)
Edit the jspwiki.properties file defining custom directory location info
Restart your app/web server
Point your browser to your server install/app location and you've got yourself a Wiki

dipping my toe in the water
As some of my peers have started doing in the recent past (checkout my Blogroll to the right), I'm about to dip my toe in the water of the blogsphere.
I'll probably write most about the thing that consumes the majority of my life: family, running and travel.
While not enjoying these top 3, I'll share my thoughts on what consumes me most days, Identity Management. Working in the Identity Management Practice at Sun Microsystems gives me the opportunity to talk with lots of customers daily. I'll try to give my take on things from my perspective, Sigle's Sideline.
Come along for the ride. Let me know what you think. If I get a little off track, bring me back.
