Thanks Apache

In the spirit of all the cool Java libraries and applications that are/can/should be/will be packaged it is important to recognize the contribution of the Apache Software Foundation.

One of the things that is really important to the distros is to refactor common elements. As I'm quite keen to get NetBeans and GlassFish packaged it hasn't gone without notice that many of their dependent packages originate in Apache projects.

So even at a high level we have the following major dependencies (and this isn't really the complete graph, but only an abstract):

[Apache]

Sun is a contributor to several Apache projects as demonstrated by our development on (to name a few):
And, of course, I want to recognize the voice -- even if it is sometimes brusque in tone -- of Geir Magnusson as an advocate for open source Java in his work with the Harmony project. In the past year Geir and I have had several occasions to discuss issues related to open source and Java. We don't always agree, but we have established a rapport based on mutual respect. One value that is very important to us both is combatting FUD and defending open source. Let me thank Ted for the pix. And a big thanks to Sara for the FUD Fighters T-Shirt which has unique symbolic value as part of webmink's team --> this is a T-shirt that I fully intend to keep.

Thanks Apache -- our communities depend on your communities.
