Chocolat Belge

One of the fringe benefits I'm looking forward to as part of my my upcoming trip is finding some Belgian Chocolate. When I lived in France one of my favorite shops was Jeff de Bruges but I'm amazed to find they don't actually have any stores in Belgium??

My friends (Belges) Frederic and Colette have recommended Marcolini (39 Place du Grand Sablon) and Neuhaus (Neuhaus Sablon, Rue Lebeau 77, 1000 Brussels). This website is a great example of why I really dislike Flash. I cannot link to the address(es) and, after a few minutes, the site makes Firefox crash :(

[mmmm]

A mystery, however, is that not even David Delabasse can tell me if Musée du Cacao et du Chocolat is worth a visit (or is just a tourist trap). Have you been there?

So what's the big deal anyway? The europeans have this concept of chocolate praliné which is simply outstanding (if you nave never tried this just think of Nutella, only much better). More importantly the quality of the chocolat noir is amazing. For some strange reason americans don't seem to have a taste for this (at least it's very hard to find comparable quality chocolate here in the USA).

If you have any recommendations please let me know! I'm sure that between the moules frites, the biere and le chocolat we will be in a fantastic mood to find diplomatic solutions that harmonize how Java works on all distros!

Hi Jeff, Other tasty chocolates are made by Leonidas and Galler. I never went to the Musée du Cacao et du Chocolat but I visited Choco-story, in Brugge/Bruges. If you have some time, visit this city, you won't regret it. Another culinary suggestion: taste a Belgian/Brussels/Liege waffle. :-)

If you are looking for the best chocolate in Belgium, you have to go to Mary (mary.be - Rue Royale, near "La colonne du Congrès"). There is also Manon (chocolatiermanon.com - Rue du Congrès). When you taste Chocolate from these shops, you feel like you are in heaven. They are soo yummy!!! About Jeff de Bruges and why there is no store in Belgium, it's because Jeff de Bruges is part of the Neuhaus group. Jef de Bruges is like another name for Neuhaus. Jef de Bruges has also a long story because it started like cheap chocolate from the group nehauss, but today, this is not true anymore. Anyway, if you want to taste the best chocolate, just try the one from Mary or manon. By the way, i'm from Belgium, Brussel, and I know theses shops very well ;-))

If you don't understand my French, here's a translation. I do prefer Mary and Manon. They are the best, even better (for me) than Marcolini, Nehaus or Léonidas. I've seen that you will attend the FOSDEM. If you want, I can bring you some chocolate** from Mary and Manon to see how delicious they are.

** for FREE as a beer ;-)
