Open Sourcing the JDK: What do you think?
Today we have taken an important step to solicit community
feedback on open sourcing the JDK.
We have just announced the primary website for discussing
plans to open source the JDK: http://community.java.net/jdk/opensource/
And we have started the JDK Open Source forum to engage in questions such as:
- The choice of license
- The governance model
- Operations issues: the bug tracking software (BTS), the version control software (VCS), etc.
- The Java brand
- Compatibility
The goal of these steps is to make the transition to open source as transparent as possible. I do hope you will chime in!
