Todd Jobson's Blog Reflections
About Me... Todd A. Jobson ...
20-25+ year seasoned field architect/ consultant. This is my 12th year with Sun.
I started in computing during my early teens with Apple's and My Commodore computers (writing video games on my Vic20 in 4K of RAM !!, then C64, and Amiga's..).
Prior to Sun, I ranged from a Lead SW Engineer in charge of Real Time Nuclear Power Plant Systems, to Chief Architect and Technical Director.. developing, architecting, managing, and integrating large mission critical deployments (from U.S. Power Utilities, Casino's, and Telco's... to Russian Govt. deployments of Real Time Distributed systems...).
In my early days in development, I mastered and coded hundreds of thousands of lines of code in nearly all languages.. C/C++, Fortran, Pascal, Prolog, Lisp, Java, etc... to all the scripting variants.. Perl, Awk, Python, etc...
As I grew my career, I took on Systems, Network, and RDBMS Administration, which grew to Design in those areas... In my latter years of Design/Architecture, I created end to end fully integrated systems, custom device drivers, network protocols, Internationalized interfaces, Distributed / Clustered platforms, etc..etc.. ensuring that thorough systems Integration and Testing resulted in seamless Highly Available Deployments.
Since 1996, my last 11 years have been within Sun, working for Sun PS, SunCS, and now GSO as a Sr. Architect: architecting, assessing, managing, and deploying some of Sun's largest mission critical environments. During the Ebay 90's I led the AQSF (Availability Quality Strike Force) Assessments for the Northeast Area and have since led over 100+ assessements / engagements / escallations, and presentations throughout the Sun mission critical Telco client community.
I hold a Bach's in Comp.Sci, and MBA in IT, +credits @ Stanford Univ. towards a PHD.. (placed on hold after I had kids). I'm a member of the Sun Blueprints MRB, have presented/demo'd at many events including Sun's Immersion Week, global Customer Engineering Conference, and the NJ Governor's sch. conference (for top x% of NJ HS technology students), etc..
I am the author of several utilities, among them, "sys_diag" (BigAdmin) for Solaris Performance & Configuration/Capacity Analysis (Workload Characterization..), also available as part of the SunFreeware.com distribution.
In my spare time, I enjoy Mountain Biking, Time exploring with my kids, Martial Arts, Fossil Hunting, Chess, Philosophy, Mythology, The Great Outdoors (Mountains, Lakes, Beaches, ..), Hiking, Golf, Scuba Diving, Hockey Skating, Tennis, Swimming, Psychology, Brain/Neurobiology, Cosmology/Astronomy, Physics, Biology/Evolution, Museums, Bookstores, huge open flea markets, good food... and everything that is Science and Technology... ;) Check out my site content, external links, and let me know what you think. But most importantly ... explore.. learn.. and ENJOY !!
