Day 2

We were still having the stall for University Relations and based on yesterdays response we had arranged for an extra stall also. So now we were more people getting registrations done on behalf of the attendees for OSUM. It was really interesting to get the feedback from the people who were willing to join and also from those who had joined yesterday.

We had announced prizes for the groups that would get more than 25 or 50 registrations within a day and to our surprise there were more than one group that had achieved it.

Later in the day after luch, I had taken our co-ordinator Ganesh Sir to my campus at Kompally so that he could address the students of my college and also have an interaction with the facluty at my institute. It went on pretty well. There were few positives that were discussed during the course of the meeting and I hope all that we discussed would get implemented.

We returned back to HICC at around 5:00 in the evening by when few other CA's had delievered their lightening talks. The crowd coming in to the stall for registrations even after 5:30. But we had closed it down at around 6:00 as we were already too tired to keep going on.

All the CA's then had taken out little time to relax in any possible manner. Few had gone to  attend the evening's entertainment program while I along with few others had just sat down and had chat with each other.

We then moved out again for dinner to a restaurant near the Cyber Towers where we all enjoyed some delicious food again.

Over all, the two days at the stall was quite wonderful with the response that we had for participaption into OSUM.

A sigh of relief thinking that there would no stall on Day 3.

Hi all

Sun Tech Days 2008-09 was held at HICC Hyderabad between 18th and 20th of Feb. This is the second time I have attended Tech Days, first being the one conducted last year. A lot of anxiety and curiosity to meet the people driving Open Source Community. This time the event was more special owing to the presence of the man whom we all know as "Father of Java", James Gosling.

On the first day, the excitement to see James was uncontrollable. He is the one who has changed the world of technology on its head by gifting the most used powerful and  programming language today, Java.

It was 08:40 in the morning on 18th when I reached there. The registration stalls were filled with people for spot registrations while the pre-registered were busy collecting their welcome goodies. The Tech Days started off at around 09:00 with welcome notes by Anil Valluri followed by Key Notes from James Gosling , in which he laid emphasis on telling the large gathering the power of Open Source Technology and also highlighted the latest developments in the technological fields, like JavaFX, Project Kenai and few more. Every one present in the auditorium paid attention to every single word spoken by James. I must frankly say that any of them had eveb been there only to see this Geeky Guy who during his talk took the blame on himself, not for Java but for the editor emacs that he developed as part of his project. The remianing of the key notes were very helpful in showing the world the way ahead in the Open Source Technology.

Then started the various tracks evangalilzing the attendees of various rich features of technologies including JavaFX, OpenSolaris,MySQL,NetBeans,GlassFish and so on. Unfortunately I did not have the oppurtunity to attend many of these seeions as I was volunteering the Sun University Relations Booth at the Thech Days. Being a Sun CA, I felt very proud in letting the attendees, especially the college going community, know about OSUM , the only community of its kind bringing together the like minded developers around the worls to a common place.

I along with Rajesh, our Coordinator and few other  CA's continued with registering the students into the OSUM for the rest of the day. Infact, Ganesh Sir, who is the Coordinator for Sun CA Program in APAC was astouned by the response that we were getting from the students attending Tech Days.

The first day was marked with great success, not only in spreading the technical knowledge through various track sessions, but also in regards with the participation we could generate into OSUM.

In the evening there was Entertainment programme, a Fashion Show which drove the attendees crazy. A lot of fashion and cool music was at offer to enjoy.

Thanks to Ganesh Sir that we all CA's along with few other students who were present there for presenting their projects, had gone out for a Dinner at Paradise, the landmark hotel in Hydereabad.

A real good 1st day at Sun Tech Days 2008-09

Hi all

Here is my blog entry for the WorkShop conducted by Sun during our annual techno-cutural fest Icknighted08. (http://www.icknighted08.com)

The workshop was conducted to create an awareness about CFF and Sun/Open Source Technologies amongst the college students. The workshop was conducted on 24th Oct. Gautami Kondapaneni from Sun was the engineer who held the workshop.

The workshop started at 4:30 PM(30 mins late than scheduled) and went on for 2hrs 15 mins till 6:45PM. The guest engineer was amazed by the participation and the enthusiasm that was at dispay. There were 115 students from various colleges that had attended the workshop. The entry was free for all and so we had more participation than expected.

The session highlighted the role of Sun in Open Source World and also the revolution being brought about by student communities by participating in the Open Source Community. The session also evangelized about the Sun student competition-"Code For Freedom 2008". The students were delighted to know about this and I had already received few queries about the way in which they can take part in it. I am also happy to let you all know that we have 3 teams already ready to submit their initial designs as entries for this contest and they shall be doing it soon after documenting their ideas.

The satisfactory aspect of this session was that there were many students from different colleges who had a first look at Sun Academic Initiative. All the students have gone back and given a thought about this program. I have received queries regarding how they can get this program into their institutes.

The speaker also highlighted the various technologies and how the students can take advantage of these technologies being open sourced. The queries raised by the students had taken the speaker by surprise as she got many interesting ones. We had lots of goodies that were given away at the end of the session based on the speakers rating of the questions being asked. We also lucky draw for which we gave away T-shirts, caps, pens, key chains. One lucky participant from the 1st year had won a Pen Drive in the lucky draw. We also made sure that every participant of the workshop had received cds of Solaris and NetBeans.

We had also publicized OSUM to a great extent during this fest and we now have a large database of students to whom we are reaching out for their participation in OSUM. We shall soon see a lot of them in the community.

I would like to thank Rajesh, our coordinator for the support he had extended in getting this event organized. I,on behalf of IcfaiTech, would also like to specially thank Gautami for delivering an excellent workshop session by which students have got great insight into SAI.

I would like to give a word of thanks to Kriti,Diplesh,Nitesh Nigam of my college who had worked hard to ensure that the workshop was held successfully.

Students working hard to make sure there are no last minute hick-ups.

Hi all

I have already blogged about my Introduction Of Sun CA Program to IcfaiTech Blore students last Saturday. In less than a week, the enthusiasm shown by the students has astonished me.

Following on the benefits that I had briefed them during the introduction Talk, the students have formed a group of their own in OSUM http://osum.sun.com/group/icfaitechbangalore. The community is slowly developing.

The really exciting thing for me is that two of the students from the first year, Ashish and Ankur have started developing a project using Java in NetBeans. The fact they have come forward and taken up the project makes me more enthusiastic for my upcoming visits to the Blore Campus. The project deals with developing a  Telephone Directory SoftWare. The product developed will make it easy to find the contact nmbers of any person required as far as he/she  has an entry in the database.

I wish the both the VERY BEST OF LUCK in completing their project.

Hi all

NetBeans, the only IDE that you need, is celebrating its 10th B'Day and on this occassion, I would like to share the features of a project that has been developed by one my IcOSUG Member. The project was to develop a GUI Calculator that is more user customizable. The user can change the skin of the calculator and also the can customize it according to his comfort.

According to the developer: "The calculator is capable of handling multiple operators being pressed after the other in a long expression (it is not a single operator and two operators calculator). The calculator does not give priority to multiple operators pressed one after the other in an expression, Suppose there is an expression a+b-c/d, 1st a+b is calculated then c is subtracted from the result and then the entire result is divided by d.

When either the sin ,cos or tan button is pressed the inverse is calculated if inverse button has been pressed before ,the hyp is calculated if hyp button has been pressed before ,the inverse is calculated if both inverse button and hyp have been pressed ."

Hi all Today I had an oppurtunity to introduce the Sun CA Program to the students of IcfaiTech Blore. It was a very warm response that I received from them. There were 35 who had gathered for the same. I had brief talk regarding the features and the functioning of the program. I had also briefed them regarding the benefits that they can avail by participating in it. To my surprise, I already see some of the students from the session in OSUM. This is really great enthusiasm. We have also agreed upon forming an Open source user group for The Bangalore Coll similar to what we have at Hyd, IcOSUG. I would like to thank VadiRaj Acharya ir for the efforts he had put in for getting this conducted successfully as it did. I would also like to thank the students who had turned up and shown keen interest to get involved in OSUM and Sun CA Program. Hoping for great outcomes from Bangalore side also.

Hi all, today I had conducted a Demo Session on Introduction to NetBeans 6.0 and Web Applications using NetBeans.

The session started at 6:00 PM as scheduled and there was a descent attendance around 30. The best thing of it was that most of the attendees were from 2nd and 1st year  with few from 3rd year. The session carried on for 90 mins during which I had demonstrated briefly about developing Desktop Database Applications, Swing GUI Applications and Web Based Applications  using NetBeans.I had also discussed about few of the Editor Enhancements and Profiling in NetBeans 6.0

At the end of the session I had students approach me and show interest in taking up Projects using NetBeans. This was really great!! Few of them had also requested for such sessions to be conducted more briefly.

Looking at today's response and the enthusiasm in the students I am really excited for my future Demo Sessions. But this is real good news.
