From Christine Dorffi, Managing Editor, SDN Web Content - Mobility/JavaFX/Java ME

If you have a question about the JavaFX Preview, post your questions during this session and get answers from three key members of Sun's JavaFX engineering team: Josh Marinacci, Martin Brehovsky, and Larry McDonough.

Typically, a one week period is designated for questions on a specific Ask the Experts topic. You can submit a question on that topic any time during that week. We'll collect the questions periodically and send them to the experts. We'll then post a selected set of questions and answers. Although the experts will try to answer as many questions as feasible, there is no guarantee that all questions will be answered.

Get more information at the Ask The Experts.

Who is the IEC chess runner up? Find out in this interaction between "threereasons" and "pennyarcade".

The IEC Eveninger reported thus:

The GPD team led by Geetha and Padmaja "carromed out" the opposition to win the Carrom Doubles championship this evening. The run up to the finals included defeating strong teams. Ragunath and Rahim, also from IPG tried their chance yesterday but luck was not in their favor. Congrats Geetha and Padmaja. Incidentally, Geetha is also the winner of this year's badminton championship.

Catch your favorite players in action: Discussing, planning, strategizing...

and of course, playing!

Catch all the cricketing action right here...

Credit for shooting many of these pictures go to Rahim.

Newspapers were busy writing obituaries for IPG cricket team. But the team hopes to make it big in an upcoming tour, and definitely go for the trophy next year.

The IEC Post mentioned:

IPG's cricketing dream ended today as Masterblasters failed to blast off. Inspite of a promising score of 93 runs in the first round, the team failed to perform today. The fans were a disappointed lot. The team hopes to start training the juniors and make it to the finals for next year.

A related story from Sports Mirror:

The indomitable spirit of "GPD Sizzlers" was put to test this morning when they played with "Sydney Sledgers". Sizzlers just fizzled out! Several top order and star batsmen got out without opening their accounts. The captain and rest of the team were not reachable when they were last contacted.

According to unconfirmed sources, the team was secretly taken outside the venue with heavy police protection.

Christmas Tree (ground floor reception area, IEC)

In yet another stunning performance, "IPG Masterblasters" beat "Blisters" by over 40 runs! Hemadri captained the team for IPG and led the team to victory. Everyone in the team contributed their bit. Now, the team will battle it out with "Crickets" at 1 pm. Once again, the venue is Corporation Ground, Shanthi Nagar.

Traffic restrictions :-)

Heavy crowd is anticipated. Only vehicles with green color passes can drive in to O'Shaugnessy road. Remember, you can only drive into O'Shaugnessy road from Langford road side. Special parking is arranged all around the corporation playground. If you have 'Divyasree' stickers, you may park your car in the IEC basement area. You can also try to park in the space adjoining hockey stadium. Langford Town area has been cardoned off for general purpose vehicles.

Important note :-)

Spectators who want to get autograph from the star batsmen are allowed to meet them only at 2pm (after the end of the game). If you would like to talk to the batsmen, please come during practice hours.

GPD Team-1 or GPD Sizzlers qualified for the next round by defeating "The Rock". GPD sizzlers will battle it out with "Sydney Sledgers" tomorrow (Dec 18) at 12 Noon. Venue: Shanti Nagar Corporation Play Ground. The captain of the Sizzlers team, Nilesh Parmar felt that the boys just played their natural game.

Note: Since the crowd is expected to be heavy tomorrow, only those cars with yellow passes are allowed to enter O'Shaugnessy Road and park near the corporation ground :-)

It was a day filled with fun and non-stop excitement for the documentation team in IEC. We went out for go-karting first, and then went to Hotel Atria for a sumptuous lunch. We all assembled in the ground floor lobby at around 9:30am. The Sun shuttle took us to the go-karting venue (Patel's Inn). It was a 45 minute drive. Luckily for us, there was less traffic on the road. So, we reached the venue ahead of time. The tracks were readied for driving as we waited patiently. And once we started, we did not know we spent a good part of an hour there either driving (or racing?) or watching others drive. It was good fun! We then headed to Hotel Atria. Of course, we reached ahead of time here too! We had some fun-filled and relaxed moments here. No one kept a tab on time or what they had for food :-) We returned to our workplace by 2:30pm. We had just returned after a heavy meal and it was friday afternoon...needless to say, we spent the rest of the day working really hard.

Enjoy the photos from the event. If you would like to view the photos in picasa directly, click here.

If you are unable to spot the documentation team at work this Friday (Nov 23), there is a reason. We are going to Patel's Inn for go-karting. And then we are heading out for lunch to Atria.

An image of food items laid out on a plantain leaf. Isn't it tempting?

The importance of having "todo" lists is a much discussed topic in personal organization literature. You always know you need to do certain things. But without these lists, you tend to focus on urgent issues rather than important issues. Some urgent issues may not be important. It is not wise to devote your time to work on issues that come your way, if they are not important. You need to plan your work better and execute it. That way, you will accomplish a lot more.

So, get a "todo" list done for you and it should be put up in a prominent place on the wall where you keep looking. Afer some time, you can't do without looking at the wall once in a while. When work (as in "todo" lists) keeps staring at you, you can't forget things you should accomplish.

How would you sell a supercomputer to an old man?

Well, that was my topic today at the "SunTalk Toastmasters" meeting this morning. I was attending the meeting as a guest, and I volunteered to speak on this topic during the "Table Talk" session. These sessions are "spontaneous" or "impromptu", and one does not get time to think a lot about what to speak. I enjoyed it anyway, and was successful talking about what I wanted to. A DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) and three other expert toastmasters from outside of Sun had joined to celebrate the spirit of toastmasters.
