Does business jargon irritate you? You are not alone!

Thanks to Sun Communicator's Blog with the same title, I went on to explore the Boston Business Journal poll. The reader comments are quite interesting. Here is my list of irritating business jargon:

  • Bucket
  • Data point
  • End of the day
  • I have a few cycles left
  • Out of the box

Comments:

All-hands - quite a silly term to refer to company meetings. Bandwidth - It sounds especially out of place when there are non-IT people around. Leverage - Less said the better.

Hmm, my pet peeve is describing people as "resources", ie in the same way as office furniture.

Some jargon "art terms" make conversation quicker and more precise for practioners, but this is just dehumanising...

I voted for "other" and entered "bandwidth", as in "I don't have bandwidth for that". Why can't people just say they don't have time? I guess Rajeev and I were thinking along the same lines. And I agree with Damon that it's not very respectful to refer to people as "resources".
