Solaris for the layman
As a layman, why should you move to Solaris? Because:
- Solaris does not crash or hang
- It is totally FREE (and open source too)
- It is fast and secure
- It is the world's most advanced operating system
Wondering if you should be a nerd or certified geek to use Solaris? Change your perception here and now. Get Solaris!
Agreed. But when every other novice get's stuck up in the installation of Solaris for days, throws the DVD and installs Ubuntu, don't you think there is a problem in getting adoption?
A system administrator might have the patience and in depth knowledge of his machine, but a normal user doesn't and usually ends up throwing Solaris in favor of Linux.
Yes, there is a new installer now in SXDE, but there needs to be tonnes of work put into ease of use. I hope the talk in Indiana stops and the walk starts.
I admire Solaris, truly. It's a computer scientist's heaven. But, c'mon, IMO it's not yet ready for lay man prime time.

Claim that Solaris as the world's most advanced operating system is debatable.
It can be advanced in some counts, but that doesnt make it "the" advanced.
