Java Audio

I had a quite great experience with Java yesterday. I was trying to build a couple of mp3 players' sources to run over my solaris laptop. But I faced a little trouble while building them. I didn't find the problem with Java player that was freely available over net. All I got after building those was a jar file :-) Java has quite rich set for MP3/multimedia APIs. And obviously, it worked because of the Java's great strength (platform independence). The above note doesn't describe any good or bad about portability of other players or any other piece of code written in c/c++. We can modify the code a little and then build for the targetted system easily. And it'll work. In fact, I work in c/c++ domain but I can say that java is awesome in some situations like this. Now, it's (java) much more faster as well. I strongly feel that we can make use of such available Java's API and develop/bundle such programs with opensolaris. It might need some brainstorming / serious thought. Also, it doesn't mean that every peice of code can be written in Java :-) A good balance of c/java can really be wonderful.

Hello, i agree. IMHO, even a lot of "high level" OS services and applications should be written in high level and secure languages like Java. Java has come a long way and it is much more productive than other languages around imho. Making a desktop search engine for example is easy with JAva+Lucene.. Of course if what you need is a simple script, Java might not be the weapon of choice.
