LDoms Have Arrived

LDoms is Sun's system partitioning technology for CoolThreads based servers (like the T1000 and T2000). Honglin writes that Ldoms 1.0 has been released! Check out Honglin's Blog for some background information, including a really cool flash demo. We'll be bringing you more information about LDOMs in the coming months.

PS
Our promised blog on using the new Containers features in the upcoming Solaris Express Developer Edition 5/07 and Solaris 10 7/07 releases will be posted soon.

A Bumper Crop for Zones

Solaris Containers are sprouting lots of new features! Over the next couple of weeks, we'll drill down to cover new Containers features available in the Solaris Express Developer Edition 5/07 and Solaris 10 7/07 releases.

In the meantime...

Here's what's new in both releases:

Here's what's new in Solaris 10 7/07:

Overviews and usage information for all features can be found in an advance copy of the System Administration Guide: Solaris Containers--Resource Management and Solaris Zones posted on the Zones community site. Jerry's blog on containers covers new zones containment features. For more information on IP types in zones and links to design documents, read Donghai Han's Weblog.

Booting Up

Virtualization is a hot area at Sun. We've been adding features and improvements to our existing products, and developing and releasing new solutions on a regular basis. Those of us working on virtualization want you to know about our latest efforts, and be aware of products under open design so you can give us your input.

In addition, most of us develop information, and we want to tell you what we've written and where you can find it, especially the newest sources.

To make sure we cover as many developments as possible--software and hardware--we plan to produce this blog as an ongoing group effort about virtualization at Sun.
