During the meeting Eduardo Lima show the videos that I done with him and Bruno Souza and Rafael Tinoco. I guess Crawford like the videos, and we talked a little about the Porto Alegre OpenSolaris User Group. He like to know Rafael Vanoni and others ambassadors participated our meeting by skype.
In the end of meeting I gave a gift to Crawford, it's a knife and fork used to barbecue (typical food in Rio Grande do Sul).
By the way, the videos that I mentioned here are available here

Indiana University Tour '08 - Summary
After 4 days just talking, thinking and showing the Indiana. The tour is over . Ok, it's not a problem, in same cases it's a good idea come back to studies and the day-by-day.
During this 4 days (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), the group went in 4 different university, different cities just to show the new OpenSolaris. It's a great job, I really can't imagine some day the group will done something like that. But in fact I'm very very proud and very happy. Because, the numbers are great too. We done 4 teck-talks in different universities (as I said), more than 40 people on the total now know or just herd about that and the group groing up (again).
I need to said tanks a lot to the PoaOSUG one more time.
Said tanks in special to Ronaldo, Stephania, Glaucio and Severo.

Indiana University Tour '08 - UFRGS and Puc-RS
This is the last day of the tour and I'm really satisfied. In tree days the group done 4 tech-talks in different cities, different universities... Another good point in my opinion was the presentation are the same for everybody. This are a great facility because some time you can explain with your words to another ambassador what does ming a specific point.
Today at lunch's time around 10 people attend my talk at Instituto de Informática of UFRGS in Porto Alegre. At end of talk a lot of questions and one Asus EEEPC900 extend the event. One girl ask if she can install the OpenSolaris on her laptop. I take the little laptop and plug my pen-drive who has the OpenSolaris 2008.05 embedded The hardware is celeron 900MHz with 512 MB of memory, I really don't remeber the disk's size. The system booting and running, a little be slow (off-course). The owner of laptop like a lot and said that she's surprised with the result.
At end of the day Stephania (ambassador from Puc-RS), conduct your first tech-talk at Faculdade de Informática. A little be nervous at the begin, she done a faster presentation because her time. It's ok, I remember my first talk, the most important was same at UFRGS the attenders done a lot of questions. And some guys ask for becoming a member of PoaOSUG.
Today was a good and busy day to us. Now it's time to do a summary of the last 3 days and think in the future.

Indiana launched!
Finally the May 5 coming, the Indiana or OpenSolaris 2008.05 was launched. I just talked about the features of new version last week, and you can read here. But I will repeat, that I'm was very impressed with the "Device Driver Utility". In my opinion this tool will help to increase the number of users a lot.
A few moments a go (now it's 4:00am in Brazil), finished a live training session about the OpenSolaris 2008.05. It was a great opportunity for solved the last doubts of new version. Around 16 ambassadors participated the session. And the most of them are Braziliam
Participated myself, Pedro from Rio de Janeiro, Silveira from Fortaleza, Marcelo Arbore, Larissa and Levi (sorry if I forgot someone). Participated too guys from Chile, Colombia, Germany and so on. The center point of the session is to show the new version of OpenSolaris, show the install process and as I said, solve the last doubts.
Now it's time to prepare the material and show to the rest of PoaOSUG the new OpenSolaris. And to done the talks that are schedule in during this week. In total there are 4 talks schedule until May 7. You can see the schedule of the talks here.
Coming soon for the results...

A few seconds before to start the session at 3:00am in Brazil

OpenSolaris chat
Today we have a OpenSolaris chat at freenode.org. About 35 peoples watching and done relevant questions. It's a great opportunity to know more about the Indiana project and to understand some features of the system. First the chat was appointed to a Sun's URL, but I guess the server have some problems withe the bandwidth, so the organizer prefer create a channel at freenode.org to discuss the Indiana's project.
Participated the chat myself, Stephania (ambassador from Puc), Ricardo Severo (amabassador from Santa Cruz do Sul) and Gabriela Souza (ambassador from São Paulo)

Myself alone at chat

Alcides Maya's meeting
Today I have a meeting with some teacher of Alcides Maya's school to explain the Open Source initiative's of sun. Te attenders, teachers in general made some interesting and relevant questions about the installation and the tools of OpenSolaris. The funniest, in this case, was when I explained that the SXDE comes with everything (Netbeans, PostgreSQL, Sun Studio and anothers) built-in, everybody was surprised.
After my small talk, available here, some teacher talk about the difficult to find good java's programmer and java's teacher. It's what I want to listen! So I can explain the initiative of Sun's training. And one more time, the guys was surprised a lot
After 1 hour, the meeting finished with some good conclusions. Now it's time to send this information to my manager and maybe done some business. Very good!

OpenSolaris preview
Everybody was waiting for the Indiana that will launch in May 5. Until this day we have the RC to test the new features and saw the look and feel of the system. Today I read the instructions of Rafael Vanoni and try to use this preview in a USB stick.
First I download the iso image in a torrent file, and here I just impressed because there are a lot of seeders on the net. So it's too fast download the file. Donwload files in torrent it's simple ok, I know. My problems started when I try to burn the image in my USB stick. I have this error:
bash-3.2$ distro_constructor/tools/usbgen 0805rc2a.iso usb.iso /tmp/
distro_constructor/tools/usbgen: line 43: lofiadm: command not found
I simple talk with my mentor and he said: "look your path"
My path are ok, but if I navigate until the directory and run ./usbgen the command running without problems. Sometimes I don't have the answers...
After that I boot the new OpenSolaris or Indiana (choose your name), and I really like that I saw. The look of the system are very, very cool. The default username used is "jack", the name of OpenSolaris mascot. But in Brazil it's difficult to find a guy to know who is jack The best tool in my opinion is the "Device Driver Utility". Actually we heard a lot of people how said that OpenSolaris have problems with device driver. I guess this problem was solved with this utility.
So... let's waiting for the May 5.

Summary of fisl and OpenSolaris Day
After almost a week in events talking about OpenSolaris, Open Source and things related it's very strange when everything over, the people go to our home and you are alone again.
But the summary of this event was positive in my opinion. We can reach the goals that we expected. That is show the OpenSolaris, java and the another tecnologies of Sun. And increase the opinios (good or not), about that.
The numbers of event are:
- almost 1000 OpenSolaris books
- 2 box of OpenSolaris DVD
- 10 new laptops running the SXDE
- a lot of gifts like pens, t-shirt and cubes
I need to say tanks to the Porto Alegre OpenSolaris User Group for the help, say tanks to Sun that provide the gifts, DVD and books, to another ambassadors that come to Porto Alegre and help us. This events was a success because all of us help and done your part.

From left to right: Eduardo Lima (the boss), Thiago Gonzaga (ambassador from Rio Preto-SP), Ronaldo, Fábio (ambassador from Aparecida-SP), Vitório (ambassador from Porto Alegre-RS) and Marcelo Leal. Some students done a kind of interview with me and Rafael Vanoni to your course. And we have to answer a lot of aspects of OpenSolaris and his kernel.
After the lunch with Philip Russel. Some ambassadors are invited to listen a small talk about javaDB and PostgreSQL, it's very interesting. In this day yet Rafael Tinoco, Silveira Neto and Lucas Torri done our talks in the event. Unfortunately I just saw the talk of Rafel Tinoco (sorry guys).
