The internet shows you how small the world is... While web surfing yesterday, I discovered that a woman that shares my daughter's name lives in the house that my paternal grandparent's lived in when I was a kid. It is amazing what you can find out on the internet, randomly. (2008-04-23 21:45:14.0) Permalink Another Witty Ironic Observation I was looking through the UC Extension, Santa Cruz catalog and discovered a course with a title that just drips witty irony. UCSC has a a counter-culture reputation, so I have to wonder if they were just trying to milk that... or whether this was just one of those Great Moments in Copy Editing. (2008-01-02 21:10:52.0) Permalink All's well in Wellington... At Last! After the writer's strike sent my favorite shows dark for so long, I was beginning to despair. But good news came today from a world apart, basking in a summertime glow! My kids are thrilled that their friend may be playing the role of Gandalf once again. They enjoyed seeing Sir Ian McKellen play Lear last spring in Stratford-upon-Avon, but Lear is hard to love... especially when you are 10 and 11. (2007-12-18 21:42:00.0) Permalink An offer that is hard to refuse If you live within 'shopping distance' of Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California, you may want to check out the following "deal". If you spend more than $500 dollars to purchase gift cards, you get a certificate for a free picnic lunch for two... If you are buying Father's Day gifts and presents for your child's teacher, this can add up to be a pleasant gift for you, too. (2007-06-13 22:12:45.0) Permalink Which mini doesn't belong on the list
(2007-05-24 14:38:26.0) Permalink what do tags do???? the ui for blog entry has a field with the label 'Tags'... since I like to learn by doing this pointless entry just to test tagging.... (2007-05-23 14:06:52.0) Permalink Comments [1] I was just reading through the JavaDoc for SwingUtilities and saw this gem in the Method Summary table Causes doRun.run() to be executed synchronously on the AWT event dispatching thread. Makes me wonder, who is the secret Crystals fan. Got other examples of JavaDoc jokes? Tag them on del.icio.us with javadoc joke (2007-04-28 08:39:11.0) Permalink Comments [1] Google bombs are country specific I just discovered that googlebombs aren't universal to Google sites.... Compare the results of this search against the UK incarnation of Google and the results of this search against dot-com incarnation of Google. Very interesting... So, the Colbert nation still has marching orders to carpet googlebomb Stephen Colbert to his rightful place of mastery of witty irony... (2007-04-11 15:51:26.0) Permalink
Defined What is old? I used to feel that old was twice my age. Then I read this about Cyndi Lauper. She cannot be 53. I remember watching her on Countdown just a few years ago.
Time goes by speedie quick.
iPod vs. Zune in a close-out sale "Cage Match" I noticed the store has some iPod Nano's and some Zune's on sale though... I went in last night to get some recordable DVD's and did a second check.
iPod: sold out
Usually, the cart comes after the horse... While I was surfing around the web yesterday, I ran into this press release from the Eclipse Foundation about Callisto. I skimmed through it, looking for the link that points to the download page, but it wasn't there. So, I went to the Callisto page. There wasn't a download link there, either. So, I queried blogsearch.google.com to see what was up. I saw this entry, that said that I would be able to get the bits around 16:00 CET.... While the bits aren't there yet, I am sure the folks associated with the Foundation will get them staged and accessible before 23:59:59.99999 Pacific/Midway. But they should really ask Mr. Milinkovich and Mr. Skerrett what they were thinking when they decided [press] release before [bits] release. (2006-06-30 09:41:59.0) Permalink Comments [1] The BIG immigration announcement It seems like the announcement went over a lot of heads. The only way an immigrant worker ID card could work is if it was carried by ALL people. It isn't an ID card, it is a privilege-to-work card. Another thing to note: the only people who can employ someone would be the people who can afford to buy the privilege-to-work card reader gizmo. This is great news for the shareholders of card-reader gizmo companies. The burden of buying one of these gizmos may be the final straw for some small businesses. (2006-05-16 14:03:56.0) Permalink So goes the 'nation I am happy to report that the fans of Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Nation) have been successful at googlebombing 'witty irony' to its rightful heir. I was worried that it may never happen, but the Correspondent's Dinner really brought Stephen (and my googlebombing proposal) the support that it needed. To those who saw my proposal and responded: Thank You. (2006-05-09 12:15:54.0) Permalink |
