Server Registration does Double Duty Brian Leonard posted a tutorial about using the Derby plugin for NetBeans. It is very useful for folks that are using NetBeans with Sun Java System Application Server 8.2 or the Project GlassFish implementation of Java EE 5.

As most folks know, both of these app servers bundle Derby. But there is a "secret feature" for folks that register an instance of these servers...

The server plugin for these servers "knows" about the Derby plugin and the sample databases that ship with them. So, if you register a an instance of SJSAS 8.2, something wonderful happens: the database driver and connections register in the IDE autmatically. So, you go from...

to this...

by registering an instance.

I have an entry describing the steps you need to take to register an instance, too. (2006-02-04 17:28:54.0) Permalink
