We are pleased to announce the first release of the Sun GlassFish Web Space Server Virtual Machine (VM) Template, a new method of evaluating and deploying the GlassFish Web Space Server 10 product. The template is a VM image containing an operating system, application server, database and GlassFish Web Space Server deployed in a headless server profile and lightly pre-configured for immediate evaluation and customization to suit your deployment needs.
GlassFish Web Space Server is Sun's next-generation portal server platform. Based on the Liferay open-source portal project,
it enables businesses large and small to pull together applications and
content from a variety of Web-based and internal sources and present
them as a unified, customizable portal on Web browsers, kiosks, and
mobile devices.
The VM template includes:
- GlassFish Web Space Server 10.0
- GlassFish Enterprise Server v2.1
- MySQL 5 Community Server
- OpenSolaris 2008.11 JeOS
- Sun VirtualBox - OVF and VDI formats
- VMware Workstation, Fusion, Player and Server - VMDK format
- VMware ESX - VMDK format
We are also in the process of producing formats of the template for the Amazon EC2 and Sun Cloud environments.
Although this first release of the VM template is oriented toward
evaluation use, we plan to fully qualify the included stack such that
future versions of the template can be used as the basis for production
deployments.
