Inside View: in-house counsel perspective

Sweating the Details, part 2

Tuesday Oct 06, 2009

This is amazing - it's hard to believe an attorney would submit something so unprofessional to a judge, and that a judge would take the time to mark up the errors in the document and order the attorney to show the errors to his client! Another reminder that *everything* you do is a reflection of your competence, your professional ability, and your personal brand. Make sure to proofread and use spellcheck!

I used to know a successful business man who thought that the only punctuation mark worth using was the ellipsis. All of his business letters were flow of consciousness with an ellipsis separating each phrase:

About last week's shipment...it was totally unacceptable...please send a new shipment as soon as possible...thank you.

It drove me crazy. And he was convinced that this was perfectly normal.

wow...I see what you mean...that would be...very annoying. It's also irritating! When people use exclamation points! For every! Punctuation mark! Or just randomly! As well! ;o)
