Picasa for Mac

I'm happy to become a Picasa user again. For the last two years, I use Finder and Preview to take care of all my photos. It's a very difficult job － I leave quite some duplicates here and there, and I dare not edit photos except rotating them. I hate iPhoto, I don't want the files be moved to somewhere else, and I feel bad when I don't know what it's doing and how it stores things.

Now I can do the so-called non-destructive edit again. Picasa for Mac still recognizes all previous edit made in Windows, the Picasa.ini file I mean. It would update the file if you make more edit. When there's no Picasa.ini, it happily creates a .picasa.ini file, which is the standard Unix style to name a hidden file.

I believe Picasa for Windows will recognize .picasa.ini also.

But seems that the color space used in my photos is not recognized properly in picasa. :(

Is your dislike of iPhoto more than the way it stores photos? Because you can always see the originals under the "Pictures/iPhoto Library" directory - each import will have an "originals" folder.

iPhoto has gotten much better about photo organisation as well. I'm looking forward to trying out the new places/faces features next month.

Yes, I notice those "Original" folders. The nice thing about Picasa is that these folders are stored along with the images, and a single .picasa.ini in the same folder describes all editing info. It's very easy to take a backup of the whole library (or a part of it) and directly use it on another computer (with Picasa or not).

I'm still using iPhoto'06, probably buying a MacBoxSet when Snow Leopard is out.

I was just recently pointed to picasa again (have looked at version 1 some time ago) and was surprisedto what it has grown up. I'm looking for a solution where i can have my fotos on a network share and access it from different systems ... i thought this would finally be the solution, but it turns out: not quite yet.

Unfortunately the MAC/PC sync (or common usage) of a ini file isn't yet working properly (see these postings on the picasa web help: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Picasa/thread?tid=0e2e942a3e7212d6&hl=en&fid=0e2e942a3e7212d6000460110d18a893 )
Mac client seems to recognize the PC Picasa.ini, but changes made on mac are written to a .picasa.ini (which the PC on the other side simply ignores).
I've played around a bit but haven't been successful yet.
