Or should I say Guilty Train Wreck. I got sucked into the watching the Ultimate Fighter 2 series marathon this weekend on SpikeTV and the finale, live from Vegas on Saturday Night.
I can't believe I got sucked into it, cause its truely barbaric. Humans certainly do some weird things, but watching and paying to watch people kick the shit out of each other has got to be near the top of the list. I think I got a little hooked because it tensed me up so much constantly wondering if that next punch was going to severely damage one of the fighters.
I did find it fascinating the different fighting styles. There apears to have emerged a small set of modus operandi, not like I remember hearing about Ultimate Fighter long ago, where it was really balls to the wall, hurt somebody before they hurt you, sort of fighting.
The strategies I noticed were pretty simple. There was the boxer type of fighter, who would simply try to throw punches, and maybe kicks, to knock the opponent out. Then there were the take down fighters, who would typically grab a leg, and drop their opponent to the mat, get them into a submission hold, then try to beat the crap out of opponent's face with their elbows. Greco Roman wrestling on steroids, if you will.
Oh yeah, and if all else failed, there was always the armbar. Basically lock and arm of an opponent off and get ready to snap it until they tap out.
In the end, most of the of the matches ended in a decision rendered by the judges. Barely better than what you'd see in typical boxing, although more wrasslin' and blood spurtin'. Why do people get off on that?
