CDC Tools To Go Open Source
In what will become a regular refrain on these pages, I'm pleased to announce that Sun has decided it will open source its tools for programming the Java ME Connected Device Configuration, CDC. The new tools show up as part of NetBeans as the Netbeans Mobility Pack for CDC. The source will show up once the due diligence process is complete.
The rather FOSS-hostile world of connected devices needs more moves like this to bring more freedom to developers as that is certain to grow the market and make everyone better off (apart perhaps from one or two wannabe monopolists). Not to mention leading to more cool stuff from people liberated by the freedom to tinker.
