A welcome demise for a customer-hostile, DRM-infested, Windows-only product that no-one could love. Let's hope the movie industry is paying close attention and learning the right lessons from this - DRM kills your business rather than protects it.
-
Doesn't even bear thinking about how this stuff gets there.
-
Interesting use for b.s.c :-)
-
Not that I ever check luggage voluntarily, but this is yet another addition to the complexity that makes random, hostile, rights-endangering behaviour more likely. And another baggie. Oh joy.
-
Soon to be essential as part of the travel process (and I just mean the part up to and including boarding the plane).

"We noticed that new airport screening protocols were implemented immediately after news reports of terror threats." You mean they aren't rigorously devised by actual security experts, and are just for a show of "protection"? Surely not.

Short roundup of the significant events has two paragraphs on Sun.

Redacted and posted to EDGAR.

I'd say "Happy Holidays" but the presence of the word "holy" in the name is probably politically incorrect.
-
It had to happen in the end. Watch ROMs make a comeback.

Great solution to a very difficult problem that I hope all the companies I write about will choose.

Good phrase there. One of things that struck me reading Dawkins was how similar his attitude was to the religious extremists I have encountered. Maybe the psychology of that sort of atheism is actually religious?

Is this for real? Or an elaborate scam to gather credit card numbers?

If you're a UK resident you need to take a look at this. I have signed it.

Given the success statistics, this explanation is a plausible as any other.
-
Ooops. Better get signing that petition I link to just above.

Good and fair summary of the progress to date with OpenJDK and its Java implementation. In particular, building bridges to the Classpath guys was the best thing we did (and started several years before the code was freed).

This is a gorgeous piece of design work.

60 today! I'm especially encouraged that the press totally missed its significance when it was announced.
-
See the photo, proves it's for real.

This is the fruit of the changes we made last January to the Sun team's mission around OpenOffice.org and I think it will greatly improve both the contribution Sun makes and the effectiveness of the community.

This is a blockbuster. Look especially at the table in section 2, it's jaw-dropping.
