While the attitude of the Burmese dictators is detestable, they have at least learned the lesson of the Prohibition and figured out that banning things isn't smart since you can't control what's illegal.

I think this article has it about right. Sun's future is open source. In that context, dealing with IBM and Microsoft through a tense relationships works better than not dealing at all.
