I've repeatedly heard how open source licensing gives greater certainty and protection than putting code in the public domain, and the article Glyn links (though orthogonally related) casts helpful light on the subject.

We'll see. It all looks too cosy to me, and real success is surely the prize for a company that genuinely thinks differently rather than one that games the status quo. Maybe that will be Apple, or Google, but the result won't look like iPhone lock-in.
