I've done the Qube3 hack a couple of times before (years ago)... definitely fun, but limited. It's not that power efficient; you'd be better off putting your time and $$$ into a lower-power newer PC that can run OpenSolaris + ZFS.

You won't ever be able to put OpenSolaris on the Qube since you'd need to have a custom ROM capable of booting OpenSolaris. It's not a standard PC BIOS capable of booting just any OS.
