• And a new terminal isn't going to make it any better - "Terminal 5 is due to open in March 2008. Although it will provide more potential sleeping space for involuntarily overnighting passengers, it does not address the central issue..."

Simon, it goes much deeper than this, the cheapskates at the BAA missed an outstanding opportunity when planning T5 to actually completely revolutionise the whole travel in and around Heathrow when they built T5. Both internal air-side transfer and land-side, getting to and around the airport. Nothing is worse with Heathrow than the bus rides between terminals, the endless sweaty smelly walking tunnels between terminals, the hassle to driving to and from the terminals. I wrote a 4-page document outlining how they could revolutionise the surface transportation while T5 was in the planning stage, all I got back was a courtesey letter saying thanks but they had no plans. Why is it they won't implement "best practises" of other world leaders on airport transportation but no because they've commercialised the airport to the point that its more of a shopping mall than an airport drives all their thinking... Sigh. Hey Happy New Year! ++Mark.

Worse even than buses, Mark - they stopped the interterminal bus service a while back and now the only way to get from T123 - T4 is via Heathrow Express (unless you are connecting airside). I guess the same rules will apply to T5 as well. BAA clearly regards the airlines as the customer and wastes no money whatever on the convenience and comfort of their customers.
