I'm not really impressed by the specs on that lens. It's not cheap for what it is, and it doesn't have a USM AF drive. See http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canon_18-200_3p5-5p6_is/.

Tamron has announced that they're working on an 18-270 with stabilization. It's f/6.3 at the long end, but that long end is longer than the Canon. If the image quality holds up (and the current 18-250 is apparently quite good), it might be a better choice for an all-in-one than Canon's 18-200. See http://www.tamron.com/news/35mm/18270vc.asp. Of course, "announcing development" means whatever it means.

I wouldn't mind doing something about my mishmash of 28-135 and 70-300 (as well as filling the gap between 12-24 and 28-135), but this isn't it. I doubt either of the ultra-zooms will be as good as the 70-300 (which really is superb, and gives up very little to the 70-300 DO IS or even to the 70-200 L quartet). I guess we'll have to see when the reviews come out.
