LiveMink: Miguel de Icaza

At FOSDEM in Brussels a short while ago I spent some quality time sharing a few beers with Novell VP Miguel de Icaza, the driving force behind both GNOME and the Mono project. Miguel is unfailingly upbeat, even after getting heckled in his keynote, and I think you can get a feeling for his energy and passion in this discussion we recorded at the end of the event in the hallway at FOSDEM.

Miguel talks about why he's not worried about Mono providing a pathway to Microsoft (I'm afraid the juiciest bits got lost when the plug fell out of the recorder), and how he welcomes Sun starting OpenJDK. Listen on!

Ogg! Thanks, Simon. Much appreciated. (Last post was the morning after my birthday, so I wasn't paying much attention to blogging formats ;) Did you end up switching tools, doing post-processing, or some other option?

Pleasure, Luis. I found that if I delete the photo track in GarageBand it makes an AIFF that I can then transcode easily with Quicktime. I'm still looking for a way to do it with Free software that's within my skills...

I'm (mostly) satisfied by your use of open standards; your use of proprietary software to produce the open-formatted data does not affect my ability to consume the data. At any rate, any dissatisfaction I may feel over your use of proprietary software is probably a distinct issue and should be dealt with as such- conflating the two issues doesn't do any of us too much good.
