Happy Birthday (belatedly) - blogs.sun.com
Friday May 04, 2007
Blogs.sun.com turned triumphant three last Friday -- this doesn't sound like a big number, but in terms of corporate blog sites, it probably is. Our .sun engineering stars, John 'Hoffey' Hoffman and Will Snow first announced it here on April 27, 2004.
From infrastrural perspective, I think blogs.sun.com, a premier blogging infrastructure for Sun employees represents success in many different dimensions:
- It demonstrates technologies developed in open source, collaborative world continue to evolve and mature into corporate tools of choice. Roller, the blogging web application behind the blogs.sun.com, is now first class Apache Software project http://roller.apache.org/, lead by Dave Johnson from Sun. Kudos to Dave and the Roller team!
- As noted in dzm's blog, blogs.sun.com is powered by Sun Java System Web Server 7.0! The site is hosted on a couple of SunFire T2000 Niagara servers, with 32GB and the raw usage statistics (for March '07) are pretty good:
March 2007 raw statistics ============================== Total Hits 52,508,449 Total Files 25,410,771 Total Pages 27,227,015 Total Visits 2,748,304 Total KBytes 918,543,087 Total Unique Sites 702,130 Total Unique URLs 515,127 Average Total ========================================== Hits per Hour 70,575 251,170 Hits per Day 1,693,820 2,926,549 Files per Day 819,702 1,636,716 Pages per Day 878,290 1,272,691 Visits per Day 88,654 143,564 KBytes per Day 29,630,422 53,247,331 - This is also a great testimony for the success of Java platform as a whole. Speaking of Java, of course, it's that time of the year - hope you are going to be at JavaOne 2007 next week in San Francisco.
