T5220, the most scalable & eco-friendly web server on the planet.
Tuesday Oct 09, 2007

Sun unveils the most scalable and the most eco-friendly web server on the planet, powered by Sun Java™ System Web Server 7.0 Update 2, and Solaris 10 08/07! For specific results and benchmark measurements, see the full announcement and bmseer's blog.
The T5220 performance is staggering to see. An all-secure Banking benchmark run generates 1GB of HTTP server access log per minute (i.e. roughly, 131,000 banking SSL protected HTTP operations per second); the I/O intensive Support benchmark workload transfers 1.4 terabytes of data over the HTTP interface; and the 64-bit Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 Update 2 serving more than 250,000 HTTP conections E-Commerce benchmark! The power savings and data center consolidation benefits are obvious as the 8 core 1.4GHz T5220 server with three 10GbE and two 1GbE network interfaces beats out (22% better) a 16 core 2.93 GHz (4x quad core CPUs) competitor's system equipped with eighteen 1GbE network cards.
The world record performance is the true showcase of innovations across the entire system - Sun Java System Web Server (with its integrated Java SE and Glassfish Java EE Servlet/JSP container), Solaris 10 08/07, in-kernel SSL, 10GB NICs and Niagara 2's breakthrough System on Chip CMT design including a floating point unit per core.
