web tier @ your service!

Yes, you can run Java EE 5 web tier on Web Server 7.0 today!

Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 Technology Preview. ships with a J2EE 1.4 compatible servlet container with support for Java web tier technologies including servlet, JSP, JSF, JSTL, JNDI and JDBC DataSource resources which ensure J2EE application portability. One of the nice things about Web Server 7.0 is that the servlet container is modular enough to be replaced by the next generation container without changes to the core server.

That's precisely what Krishnamohan Meduri demonstrates in his blog on using Project GlassFish based Java EE 5 servlet container on top of Web Server 7.0. The combination already passes 100% all of Java EE 5 web tier technology TCKs. We plan to provide a technology preview of this as soon as 7.0 is released in a couple of months.
