In case you haven't heard, there is an amazing Student offer for JavaOne this year- Students get in free! Plus, they can sign up for CommunityOne at the same time. Both passes are full conference passes with access to everything! Educators (your professors) can also get in free when they bring 10 students with them to the conference. If they aren't able to do this, they still get a fantastic deal of $895 for a full conference pass.

What is a Full Pass?

All the benefits of a FULL conference attendee, which includes: JavaOne general and technical sessions, panel discussions, HOLs (Hands-on-labs), BOFs (Birds-of-a-feather), the Pavilion and the After Dark Bash / Networking Mixer! Not to mention a "hang space" (which includes video games, movies & more!), plus you will be able to check email any time at one of our many hacker stations.

PLUS

Admission to the CommunityOne Deep-Dives. What does this mean? FREE training by our very own SLS on some really great topics, plus hugely discounted certification (vouchers will be handed out at the event)- certification can even be done on-site! There will also be numerous parties and chances for you to network with the best and brightest in the industry, from community leaders to "Rockstars" and everyone in between.

Here is the registration page set up just for you:

Note: I use Solaris 10 x86.

To customize my solaris environment, I tried to change my default shell to bash. When I modified /etc/passwd, I inputted a wrong path for bash. After I logout, I can not get back to system, because I changed root's passwd. How should I do?

I use the boot cd to boot my system, and then choose single user mode. After "#" pompts up, I am in a mini boot environment which is provided by boot cd. Then I

# cd /

# cd tmp

# mkdir mnt

# mount /dev/dsk/c0d0s0 /tmp/mnt (mount the root device and then modify it)

# cd /tmp/mnt/etc

# vi passwd (change root's shell path back to the correct one)

# init 6

When I login back to the system, "Invalid User Shell. Login Rejected" disppears and I succeed in loginning.

SandBox Module is a security measure in the Java development environment. The sandbox is a set of rules that are used when creating an applet that prevents certain functions when the applet is sent as part of a Web page. When a browser requests a Web page with applets, the applets are sent automatically and can be executed as soon as the page arrives in the browser. If the applet is allowed unlimited access to memory and operating system resources, it can do harm in the hands of someone with malicious intent. The sandbox creates an environment in which there are strict limitations on what system resources the applet can request or access. Sandboxes are used when executable code comes from unknown or untrusted sources and allow the user to run untrusted code safely.

IDG News, Chris Kanaracus; December 04, 2007

http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/12/04/Sun-dangles-prize-money-over-open-source_1.html

Sun unveils details of its new award program meant to spur growth in the open-source community.  Writing on his blog, Sun open-source officer Simon Phipps explains, "We'll be providing a substantial prize purse and working with the communities involved to develop the approach that works best.”  The program involves the OpenSolaris, GlassFish, OpenJDK, OpenSPARC, NetBeans and OpenOffice.org communities, and “is a great opportunity for members of these open-source communities to take their passion and creativity and push the innovation boundaries,” according to Phipps.

Hi Yunpu, Good luck!

Report will be uploaded after the presentation!

Saturday Nov 17, 2007

Weekend!! It means I have 3 days left for preparing. I am sort of person who like to meet deadline, which means that I 'll use it if there is one minute left. What I were doing for presentation is modifying slide. My slide is based on Visual Mobile Application on Netbeans provided by EduCommon. I add some information of Lethbridge Sun Tech User Group, SAI course etc. I deleted some points of netbeans new features, because it is too far away from my topic of mobility. I changed a Graph, xs it is not very exact, as I thought. BTW, till today, I have never understand why netbeans called netbeans. It's interesting !! If I can, I'll upload it to my blog.

Practicing presentation in this weekend. That's it. The number of RSVP promotes to 28. Count number.

Now, I am waiting for Ilya's calling. He is currently making presentation in Russia. For collabaration, I have to stay up. Come on, buddy!  I wanna sleep, haha. Anyway, Good luck to you and All CA.

Thursday Nov 15, 2007

I work out two things today. First one is about Projector and Audio Facility. Actually in the last week, I have tried projector myself. There is a small problem in audio facility. I went to IT department to ask these guys for: 1 When can I get the key for projector in AH117(my presentation room) 2 Can I try them in advance. Finally I got a very positive answer. They will send a proctor to confirm projector and audio facility oprating well in that day. It's good! At least I have some guys helping me, while I can pay attention to my presentation. Sorry, I almost forget to mention that professor. At the very first, I went to the wrong office, where he worked. After I show him my goal, he bring me to IT help desk himself.  Thanks him very much!!

Secondly, I booked food catering service. On the budget, I ordered:
15 Cookies -------->$22.35
15 Maffins---------->$16.50
40 Canned Pops---->$50.00
plus GST ----------->$ 5.33
----------------------------------------------------
TOTAL ------------>$94.18

BTW, this order is for 30 people. Currently I got about 25 RSVP, I think there are more students showing up in my presentation in that day. I hope it is not a big deal with money.

I got them done before 3:00 pm today. After that time, I was continuing to perfect my second presentation's project. Although Netbeans 6.0 is good, I have to aknowledge that it is still a demo, and there are somethings I can not understand, such as the color in text editor. The context Awareness Demo System is to let mobile accessing and PC accessing get the information automatically. I use PortalDataServlet to illustrate a context aware service, and use MobDataServlet and WebDataServlet to operate the request from mobile or pc. The data is coming from JavaDB. The raw data is uniformed. We do some data transform in MobDataServlet and WebDataServlet, then response the characteristic information to mobile user and PC user. I just wanna use this Demo to illustrate a accessing-context-aware system.

Done. Oh, Ilya, the network in my lab can not support me use port of 2252, which is Collabaration port in netbeans. If you saw this post, be patient, I will be back home soon.
